Barbers Hill had a slow start in
their match against Nederland. Midway through the
first game, the Eagles found themselves tied 15-15
before pulling ahead 25-17. The Hill then finished
the match off with a 25-5, 25-11 win.
“We got off to a slow start,” BH head coach John
Leonard said. “It was about 15-15 then all of a
sudden we looked really good. Megan Burnett played
great; she got the ball to the right kids at the
right time. I’m real hard to please but right now
I’m pleased with the way we are playing.”

By the end of play on Saturday
there were a few worn out volleyball teams in the
area. Kicking off the season with as many as ten
games, area volleyball teams all turned in a winning
record with Barbers Hill leading the way with a 9-0
record. The Eagles were the unofficial winners of
the Barbers Hill Locals Only Tournament with
Sterling coming in second with an 8-1 record. In
other area action Baytown Christian Academy placed
third in the O’Connell Tournament. Crosby wrapped up
the week with a split in the Locals Only tournament
and Lee High School dropped their first game in the
Bronze bracket of the Georgetown Tournament.

The Eagles wrapped up the final day of play in their
own tournament with a couple of wins to improve to
9-0 on the season. In the first game of the day,
Barbers Hill knocked off former district rival
Liberty by a score of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-19.
“I respect their program,” BH head coach John
Leonard said. “They are going through some tough
times but I think they will get back on track.”
The Eagles finished the day off with a hard fought
25-19, 25-21, 25-21 win over Silsbee, their second
toughest match of the tournament next to Sterling.
“Silsbee diggers were really good,” Leonard said.
“We just kept hammering it at them which was good.
All of those games could have gone either way. It
was a real team effort. I’m real proud of the back
row and I think we are really starting to click.”
Barbers Hill will return to action Tuesday when they
host Nederland.
