PALs is an
organization that fosters relationships between students with
and without developmental disabilities through one-on-one and
group activities. PALs works to allow all students to
experience the benefits of friendship, dedication, and
responsibility. PAL mentors -- juniors and seniors in Barbers
Hill High School -- visit the primary-school campus to work with
PALees, 1st and 2nd graders who have been
recommended by teachers, administrators, or counselors and
demonstrate need for a positive role model/confidant. Students
who benefit from the PALs program are not limited to the younger
grades. PAL mentors work to help their peers by one-on-one
tutoring and, if the need arises, helping any student in need
adjust to school life. PALs also works to benefit the community
as a whole by actively participating in service projects and
seeking other volunteer opportunities.
